Covington Township • 290 Acres

The North Branch Land Trust is happy to conserve approximately 290 acres of land located in Covington Township, Lackawanna County that is owned by First Industrial Reality, Inc. A conservation agreement was made between North Pocono C.A.R.E., Thornhurst Township, the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Penn Future, and First Industrial Reality, Inc. that assures this important watershed land will be protected in perpetuity under a conservation easement held by the North Branch Land Trust

“We are pleased to reach this agreement which will safeguard the exceptional local waters that our organization and its members work so hard to protect and improve,” elated North Pocono C.A.R.E. President Barbara Smith.

According to North Branch Land Protection Specialist Rick Koval, “This 289.81 acre parcel of land protects Roaring Brook (which flows into the Lackawanna River) and Tamarack Creek (which flows into Big Bass Land and the Lehigh River.) The property hosts hardwood forests, hemlock palustrine forests, wetlands, and vernal pools that support a diversity of wildlife and natural communities. Rare dragonflies, uncommon native orchids, woodland warblers, fishers, bobcats, wood frogs, fish, and thousands of wildflowers are examples of the unique flora and fauna inhabiting this high conservation value watershed land.

This Covington Township property adds another important parcel to the list of conserved lands located within the high conservation area designated by DCNR called the Pocono Conservation Landscape Initiative.
